What others are saying….
To John Dowling of Chippy School of Motoring Driver & Instructor Training Services, first of all I would like to thank God for the endurance and strength that he has provided for me to achieve the end results of my ADI (PDI Pt 3 test, at 1st attempt). However, I give my best appreciation to John who has gave all his amazing efforts and patience throughout the journey of my training. With John, he is a driving instructor who will push you to be the best of yourself and sees the potential within becoming an ADI- along with helping to achieve the weekly goal and know where to improve on by providing a well formed feedback. In additional, within my 30 years of driving experience- I have yet had a lot to learn from John such as in terms of observations, awareness, anticipation and good communication skills.
Thank you for all your support and hard work. Godbless.
As being the student within the journey of supporting the ADI training, I myself have learnt useful knowledge from John as we have treated every training as a lesson for me. I believe that he has been a well supportive instructor towards the PDI in training and the driving student- in ways where he would step in where necessary and give additional encouragement and feedback in where we can improve. John is a very active teacher who comes in every week with new ideas and challenges for both the PDI and I to achieve during our driving lesson. I would definitely recommend John to continue with sharing his great work to more in training as he leads a well structured program for his students.
After having a bad experience with a previous trainer, I reached out to John.
John is a top grade DVSA ORDIT Trainer, top of the industry, I couldn’t have found anyone better. As well as being top of the industry he is a lovely person to, he was always very helpful.
The day of my PDI Part 3 test, I was very confident and passed first time, with a good result.
I couldn’t have done it without John.
Thank you
I approached John Dowling form ‘Chippy’ School of Motoring Driver & Instructor Training Services.
After I had failed my 1st and 2nd attempt of my PDI part 3 test. John has spent valuable time to train me and corrected my faults to become trained to a higher standard, I have now passed my part 3 with a high score.
John is a very professional and highly knowledgeable ORDIT registered trainer. I would have never been able to achieve my ADI qualification without John’s help.
Can’t Thank You Enough.
Frank
I’ve recently passed my driving test at my first attempt and a 0 fault drive with John Dowling. He has been excellent with the amount of knowledge and training he has been able to provide. I always felt confident with John sitting next to me, and then I felt the same confidence when test day came around. He has always had the time to help with any issues as well an answer any questions you may have. You have nothing to worry about when you are with John, as he is friendly and talkative. The lesson time goes quickly and you wouldn’t know how much you’ve just learned. With all his training, he was able to help me go onto Pass Plus as well!
John has been excellent! He is a top grade trainer who has been ever so encouraging and friendly. John made time to answer any questions I had with so much patience. I felt confident on the day of the test and passed my ADI standards check with a great result! I highly recommend John for ADI training! Couldn’t have done it without him.
I have been training to become an ADI for the past 11 months with John Dowling ‘Chippy school of motoring’. I have loved every minute of my time with John and his PA aka John’s wife Julie, who has been at the end of the phone with answers to any questions that I had.
John is a true professional and his knowledge, friendly nature and passion for the job make him stand out from the crowd, I could not have achieved this without him.
Johns’ natural energy is really captivating and enables you to learn in the best way for you, with different learning styles and techniques he makes you feel at ease throughout the process and really makes you feel he is only there for your development.
I had a stroke in December 2021 which resulted in my full licence being withdrawn . After a time of recuperation the DVLA advised me under section 88, I would need a DVLA Provisional Disability Assessment Licence and wanted me to undergo a Driver Assessment with a RDAC. I failed my first assessment and it was clear that that I had fallen into a number of bad habits in the 40 odd years that I have been driving and therefore I needed a refresher of my driving skills. By chance I was very fortunate to come across John. He provided a detailed assessment of my current driving style (a big shock in terms of up to date expectations) and as importantly, put in place a detailed and structured plan covering all aspects of my driving including situational awareness, anticipation and hazard perception. These areas were systematically addressed over a number of weekly sessions in a variety of driving environments. It was also about rebuilding my confidence after failing my first assessment. John was excellent, caring and patient while setting the bar very high! John accompanied me to my RDAC assessment, which I passed. Getting my full licence back after 18 months means the world to me. I know I couldn’t have done it without the expert tuition that John provided and I can highly recommend him.
My name is Jenny
I had a stroke I April 2021, my doctors stopped me driving. After a time of recuperation I got better and the doctor said I would be ok to drive and DVLA advised me under section 88, I would need a DVLA medical and wanted me to under go a Driver Assessment at the RDAC in Oxford. My son contacted John and he set about assessing my driving and took me for driving tuition. I had some regular weekly lessons and got my confidence back, John was excellent. John then took me for my driving assessment with the RDAC assessment center in Eynsham, Oxford. I passed it with flying colours and got my Driving Licence back, I know I couldn’t have done it without John. I will never forget what John has done for me and would highly recommend John. I will be eternally grateful
Thank you so much for all your help and support you have given me throughout my PDI training with you. I fully enjoyed my training and learning with you.
Ever grateful.
I contacted John for ADI training, he was recommended to me by one of his students and I think it was the best decision I made, and am very grateful for him to take me on, he provides the best training and supports his students by providing a very high standard of teaching techniques.
I am very grateful for his support in my training, I am now a fully qualified ADI and feel very confident when teaching my students with all the skills that I have learnt. I couldn’t do all this without Johns support and excellent training much appreciated.
Just completed a course of CPD training for my Standards Check.
I just wanted to say a big thank you for all your help getting me out of the dark ages and up to date!
Thanks for your time, patience and wit and making it fun.
I had a bad training experience with another driving school and was fortunate enough to be taken on by Chippy School of Motoring. Here things are very different. First of all I was taught to drive properly, and then expert and client centred teaching techniques enabled me to build and develop my skills as a driving trainer. I am very grateful to John for all his help and support which still continues after having passed my part 3. I would strongly recommend this driving school and first class ORDIT trainer. But full commitment and hard work will be required and expected to achieve success.
John Dowling had been highly recommended to me after I had just failed my third and final part 3 attempt. My confidence was below rock bottom and I had been left feeling totally confused and let down by my former franchise company.
My first lesson with John was a complete eye opener, even within those first two hours understanding dawned and my confidence started to gently blossom.
John quickly establishes the best technique for you to learn, making each lesson so enjoyable and specifically designed for your own style of learning. The lessons really opened my eyes on how client centred teaching should be done. John has given me the tools to teach my students the skills, knowledge and understanding to be a safe and responsible driver.
I am now a fully qualified ADI and have my own thriving driving school business which I absolutely love, but I am in no doubt that any of this could have been possible without John’s amazing training and continuous support.
Just completed 6 week development workshop over zoom with John. Took my coaching to the next level gave me so many tools to add to my toolbox. Content of course was delivered in a way that an ADI can understand and relate to. Very respectful and understanding of your needs. Great guy, very friendly and helpful. Would recommend any form of training at any level to John. One of the best in the business. It won’t be the last time I use Chippy School of Motoring for my personal development. ( 5 star)
Once again, my thanks for your generous time spent on helping me with the standards check.
The course was very much needed as I have had no further coaching since qualifying in August 2016 and was probably not teaching to the best of my ability.
Your inciteful analysis of what is needed to not only pass the check, but also achieve a higher pass grading was much appreciated.
I feel inspired to get out there and put it into practice on my lessons with renewed enthusiasm.
Thank you so much John for a brilliant training session.
I found it interesting and fulfilling, very well covered in all aspects.
I can’t thank you enough for giving your time up for my development.
Thank you John for the information and for the training, I very much enjoyed it. Will definitely get back to at sum point to have some in car training with you , if that’s ok with you ? Once we are back up and running.
Thank you so much for the Standards Check training it was very helpful. Thank you to John for his generosity in organising a 6 hour presentation on the Standards Check, free of charge, throughout lockdown. Excited to get back teaching to imbed what I have learnt. Stay safe.
I have received one to one Training with John. I found it very interesting and informative and the advice given will definitely improve me as an instructor.
The training was relaxed but constructive, covered issues relating to all aspects of coaching in the 21st century. Well worth having these meetings.
Thanks again John
After taking time away from teaching I needed to update my skills and teaching methods, to teach in a more client centred way. John has given me some great advice and is really helping with updating and retraining me for the standards check. He’s really knowledgeable, friendly and has really boosted my confidence. Thanks John!
Thanks for the zoom training sessions, I really enjoyed them and found them very beneficial. I will be employing several things that you talked about in the sessions.
Thank you so much for your amazing training sessions, via zoom.
They helped enormously, with many different aspects. I feel that I am now in receipt of more knowledge and therefore better placed to help my students to become more confident and safer drivers….for life!
Many thanks for session today, much appreciated giving your time and knowledge.
I am writing this testimonial regarding the zoom training workshops John has been giving me to help improve my knowledge, teaching and training skills.
John’s standards check and ordit scores both of 51/51 speak for themselves and shows what in depth knowledge and skills John has……but this is really only half the story!
John makes learning fun, enjoyable and has you laughing as your learning with his open and frank assessments of everything……both the theory and what happens in real life.
John really gets you thinking about the pupil all the time, what are they thinking…..why are they doing what they are……and how to encourage them to found a solution to whatever needs to improve. John also has so many ideas and options to any situation to really help us pick up new ideas and improve, I have learnt lots of new stuff i will definitely be using.
I cannot recommend John enough and highly recommend his services and training to anyone looking to becoming a ADI……or just improve as a ADI.
John has been so helpful, patient and fun to work with. I was quite nervous for my first lesson however, John approached me in a very friendly manner to reassure me and built my confidence. Our lessons were never boring, packed with jokes and a lot of learning. I want to thank him for helping me over the last months and wish him all the best.
Best wishes
Sam
I found John through a search on the DVSA site pages – one of a handful of instructors with a Grade A 51/51 in my area. From the outset, John set clear goals and brought confidence to my driving. John’s instruction has brought me up to and above the driving test standard, which enabled me to perform well in my test and importantly made transitioning to independent driving an easy progression. I would highly recommend John to others for training in the future.
Words cannot express enough the difference John made to my ADI Part 3 training.
Having failed my Part 3 first attempt it was apparent from the feedback that there were huge gaps in the training I had previously undertaken. With a PDI Licence that was about to expire I had no idea whatsoever what I could do.
From the moment I first called John I found him to be approachable and very friendly. He was with me every step of the way to getting a second PDI application to accompanying me to my second attempt at the test. John undoubtedly went the extra mile to help and support me.
John quickly identified the massive gaps in my knowledge and identified the outdated methods I had previously been taught. He taught me in a clear, precise and professional manner, boosting my confidence whilst enabling me to engage in the client centered teaching approach demanded by the new DSA regulations.
I would most definitely highly recommend John to anyone embarking on the ADI training journey.
Words really cannot express my thanks.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank John for friendly approach to training me for my standards check which I passed today.
John is a patient trainer funny and overall very intelligent trainer who knows his subjects his advice and guidance is outstanding he likes to help people with training and he really cares for Adi to be successful in achieving their goals.
Thanks you John keep up the good work
God bless you

I initially qualified as an ADI at the end of 2016, having progressed through the whole process, parts 1,2 and 3, with John as my instructor.
When received notice of my check test this year (2018) I naturally contacted John to help prepare me for the new test with the updated DVSA competences and criteria based scoring.
After an assessment, John and I established a tailored programme for me to undertake that reinforced my current teaching but also introduced some subtle changes that further aligned me with current DVSA standards and helped improve the learning outcomes for my students.
With John’s guidance I passed my check test, and can now look forward to further establishing my business within the area.
John has always provided concise and constructive feedback at all stages of my training, his working knowledge of DVSA standards is both extensive and the most current.
When I decide to further extend my skillset within this field then John and the ‘Chippy School of Motoring’ will be my first point of contact.

John was really helpful in giving me advice and retraining me on the new standards check test SC1
John took the time to explain how different it is from when I first qualified and helped me rebuild my confidence.
Which I passed, with a grade ‘A’ and could not thank John enough for his time and patience.
I can thoroughly recommend John Dowling for any aspect of driver training. He has been the trainer I go to for CPD and help to get me through my standards check. He has proved you can teach an old dog new tricks. Many thanks John
I was very picky when it came to choosing an instructor trainer, and took a long time doing so. In choosing John I got the best I could have hoped for, training me to gain a 98% pass in part 1, a 1 fault drive in part 2 and a 5/6 result in part 3 (in all parts I passed first time).
I could not have asked for more support, encouragement and confidence from an instructor trainer, I would recommend him to anyone and will certainly be taking further training with him in the future to ensure I stay at the top of my game.
I originally started my training with a different Instructor, but it was not until I changed over to John that I realised how poor the previous Instructor was, as he was far inferior to John in all areas.
Since being with John I have found the lessons much more enjoyable and informative and his patience, knowledge and understanding are second to none. If I had not met John, I honestly do not feel that I would be a Qualified Instructor now and I will definitely seek advice from him when it comes to my check test. The support and confidence I received from John was of the highest standard.
I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending John to anyone wishing to become a Driving Instructor.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the extra training. I enjoyed the course that you provided and got a good grade for my check test due to the training. I have used these skills in my teaching and noticed a quicker repsonse from my students.
I first met John at the Banbury Test centre, when I had recently qualified. We started a discussion about HPT and he exhibited a level of technical knowledge and expertise, coupled with superb communication skills, which far outweighed anybody that I had met before. When it came to further training for my first educational check test, I had no doubts as to where I should go.
John’s training has been extremely useful to me because it has gone from the basic training that I received for my Part 3 and has dealt with the subject matter in greater detail without getting bogged down in unnecessary trivia. He has the ability to simulate, educate and manage time to great effect.
I would have no quarms about recommending John to anyone within the driver training industry.
John was recommended to me after I failed my first attempt at Part 3.
It became obvious that I needed to be totally retrained.
Over the weeks we worked hard and there were times when I struggled with the high standard that John demanded but with his patience and guidance we overcame many hurdles resulting in a good pass on the second attempt.
I have no hesitation in recommending John.
I am happy to write a reference on behalf of John Dowling, who is an excellent ADI trainer
I initially trained with the Instructor College, however they did not train me to the standards required by the DSA.
John is an excellent trainer and very quickly re-taught the syllabus and I passed my Part 3, without his help this would have been difficult.
My background is in Training and Human Resources so I know a good trainer when I meet one.
If you would like further information please call me on 01295 816894 or 07914 866785.
I will go to John for a refresher before my check tests.
When it was time to have my Check Test I have to admit I was concerned that I was teaching my pupils in such a way that there lessons were planned to suit them and too make good progress with their learning.
I decided to contact John Dowling to help me sharpen my technique to teach in the D.S.A. way and help my pupils.
I was not disappointed, from the first time I phoned John he was their to give me information and we arranged to have a few lessons, one on one. He made sure my overall driving skills were up to scratch and then concentrated on my teaching skills on planning a lesson for pupils.
He helped me in many ways and answered all my questions in such a way that it was more than teacher pupil basis but as some one that has a great feeling for the job which I hope has rubbed off on to me.
I had my Check Test and passed, so I thank you John for all your help and advise.
Spoke to John then had a 2 hour assessment, I could tell that John was more willing to pass on all of his knowledge and experience to get me to pass my part 3 test.
John’s way of teaching was to install a very high standard of teaching into me so I would also pass that onto my own pupils in the future. It was hard at times, which John said it would be, but we had a few laughs. Having passed first time, it is great to be teaching and passing on the knowledge from John, not only to pass the driving test but a better way of driving for life.
I would highly recommend John as an instructor to anyone who is trying to become a drivign instructor.
I am writing to thank you for the training you gave me over the last eight weeks in preperation for my check test, which I passed today. I am very grateful and look forward to seeing you for further training in the future.
I would like to take the time to thank John for all his hard work helping me to achieve my goal. John put a lot of time and effort into teaching me, he had every faith in me that I ould reach my target even when I douted myself.
John became a good friend; he helped me to build up my confidence. He encouraged me when I found things difficult. He made sure that I understood everything. John was always on hand to help with any questions that I might have at anytime.
A very big thank you for helping me attain a grade 5 in my recent check test. Your training was excellent, clear and to the point aswell as giving me advice on car care and general running of my driving school. I know I am able to approach you for advice at any time and I look for to more training in the future.
